My Elk Calling.
(Kootenays ,B.C. Canada)
Hi, You All! This is Al from Canada B.C., In the Kootenays Well it is that time of year again to start getting ready for opening day of hunting.Things are a little different this year. My nephew and I, well be hunting together during bow season on the 1st. of September. As I have a back injury and cannot pull a bow back .I will be the backup for bear and other things with claws,as I will be carrying my rifle to protect us.Hey you young and inexperienced hunters listen up ,If you are anything like my family, stubborn and will not listen to your elders. The only way I've learned to hunt elk is to listen to people who had more hunts then I have.Talking to people a lot which you here some good stories on calling. One of my Buddy's has 56 Elk kills ,When He, talks about calling I listen and try not interrupt!!! He is from Idaho ,and gave me one of the best cow Elk calls every made, who's Your Daddy, by Rocky J.3rd time world champion caller. I used this call were other people tried to get Elk to talk and could not. Of course going into area and calling right a way is not best.Have a good look around ,from a good viewing spot. You could start with a making soft bull call once, just to see if there is a bull around, our couple of quiet cow elk calls. This is what works for me! But you should be on the edge of a clearing in he tree line with cover, never out in the clearing were you can be seen.No matter how good your came is you well be seen!! Try not to movie around while calling, once I pulled my face mask down slowly while was hiding a bull spotted this moving at 200 hundred yards. Hope this helps anyone new to Elk hunting! Good Hunting ,have yourself s a lot fun enjoying the great outdoors, be safe. Mountain Walker.
