Hi, my name is Taylor Warner and I'm 13 years old. I've been hunting with my dad for as long as I can remember. I couldn't wait to be 12 so I could hunt. This year I was out with my dad every weekend hiking and hunting and always came home empty handed. I was getting frustrated. Thanksgiving came and my dad took me out again. We were driving and he spotted a heard of elk up on the mountain. So we parked and started hiking. My dad spotted the elk below us, so we got down and belly crawled as slowly as we could so we wouldn't scare them off. I was feeling excited and nervous at the same time. I scoped the heard of elk. No bulls, but I had a cow tag.(lucky me!)I watched the heard of cow elk and picked one out. I held my breath and took aim and shot. Missed! I was bummed. Took aim again and shot. Clean shot and my cow went down. I couldn't believe it. I was so excited. My dad and I packed out my elk whole. It was hard work, but I didn't mind it. I love the mountains and I love hunting. We didn't get home to eat our Thanksgiving dinner until 7:30 that night. But it was totally worth it!
