Many are good, but a .338 is awesome!

I've killed a few bulls and I would say that a .338 is probably the best elk caliber. Mind you, they do recoil more than a .30-06 and .270 Win, but they are a great elk caliber. The .338 isn't the best for all types of game, but it is ideally suited for elk. Either the .338 Win Mag or the .338 Rem Ultra Mag works great!
338 RUM BEST ELK & 1 HUNTING CALIBER IN NA

In my reloading and hunting experiences, if I were to have only 1 rifle for hunting elk, including buffalo and bears, in North America, I'd pick (and I have it) the 338 RUM loaded with 97 gr of RL 25 with a 225 Nosler Accubond. This load chronographs at 3150 fps and will shoot 1/2" groups at 100 yds off the bench. If you wanted to use 180 gr bullets or lighter, the 300 RUM has an edge, but with bullets of 200+, the ballistics of the 338 RUM have the distinct advantage due, in part, to the fact that the BC of the Nosler 225 is .550, superior to the Nosler 200 gr which has a BC of only .414 CHECK IT OUT!
