The Elk That Almost Got Me Killed

I was hunting in North Dakota November 16, 2010. I was just about to call it a day when I saw the elk from a couple hundred yards out. I hit him but he didn't fall. With time working against me, I wondered through the woods following the blood trail. Finally after about an hour of searching, and just as it began to get completely dark, I found him. I was alone, and I had to wait till morning to bring him in, but I at least wanted a picture. I took out my hunting camera which sends the picture back to my computer and posed with my trophy. (Mind you at the time it was completely pitch black.) I then packed up my things found my location on my gps and headed home. When I got home I wanted to go through the pictures and of course look at the elk again. I clicked the camera looked through the pictures of the day and finally came to the one with me and my trophy. When I opened it I nearly fainted. 10 feet behind me was a full grown mountain lion just waiting to pounce and I had no clue! You never know who is watching you.

I also received this photo in a email long before Nov. 16th. The nerve of some people amaze me!

Mountain lion and elk
by: Dave, MT (ElkHuntingTips.Net)

I got it AGAIN a few weeks ago. When I mentioned to my wife she said, "Oh. I got that a couple of years ago." I'm not sure that's accurate, but it definitely has been around for quite some time. Photo Shop is a popular photo editing software. It's easy to stick parts of one photo into another one.

Dishonest post
by: Dave, MT (ElkHuntingTips.Net)

I received this Photo Shopped picture in an email long before "November 16", when this anonymous person posted it on this forum. So, this is a dishonest guy. I could have deleted this post and banned the author, but I chose not to. A photo of a mountain lion with eyes reflecting a flash could be easily stuck on another photo. It's a shame it was done on a photo of such a nice elk.

WOW

Amazing! I might be skeptical too, but you can see its eyes from the flash. Great elk, Great story. Your a lucky SOB.

Skeptical
by: Dave, MT (ElkHuntingTips.Net)

I gotta tell you, I'm pretty skeptical about this one. I've received this photo by email before. It's passed around a good bit. It could certainly happen, but Photo Shop does wonders. I've seen a few mountain lions in the wild. That cat doesn't look like he's sneaking up on anything.
