Successful Hunt for 76 Year Old Lady

The Picture of Contentment

I've hunted all my life, but, despite living in this area for the past 50+ years, I have not hunted elk "this side of the mountains". But, due to the friendship of a younger couple from my church, I found out about a wonderful Agricultural hunt they do on their property each year. It's for young-people, the first-time hunter, the disabled & Sr. Citizens. I cannot say enough good about this hunt...what a morale booster, to say nothing of filling my freezer!!! Even though I'm 76 years old...I felt like I was 26 again!! The hunt opened on December 1st & I downed mine on January 8th. Naturally the weather, Christmas, & just plain ol' stubborness of the animals limited the actual "hunt days" to about a weeks worth. AND...I'll brag a little more...the site is less than 15 miles from my home. Tough you know, but someone has to do it!! :-)

I'm REALY looking forward to applying for my special hunt tag for next season.

Oh my...
by: MarDee McDougal

Hope I didn't shock you too much, Dean. I've literally hunted or been hunting all my life. I was born in April & the folks took me with them that following August/September on an Antelope Hunt. And I'll never forget that Miss Munger was the only teacher who didn't approve my elk hunt absence our Sr. year & said that since it wasn't "lady-like" she'd flunk me. She held true to her word & flunked me in Spanish. My mild mannered mother went in & did a "tap-dance" on Munger's desk...ended up that Frank over-rode her & changed my grade. :-) Was a BIG duck & Sage Chicken hunter over there too, but we don't have those right here so....

Local News Paper did an Article On Me Too
by: MarDee McDougal

Our local news paper contacted me about my hunt. Check out the article at: http://www.newsregister.com/article/43343-mardee+bags+her+elk

Was in a store this morning & a young mother was in there with her 3 year old son. She looked at me & then said "I know where I've seen you. It was in the news paper article. My family never hunted. I've always been kinda against it & we have 2 sons. But you know, that article really touched me & gave me a totally different perspective on hunting. I'm even thinking of having our boys learn". I was really touched by that. Maybe this 76 year old grandma has done some good after all.
