Elk Hunting Success Yet? (2009)

Anyone killed an elk yet?

I've hunted most days of the MT season. Called in a lot of bulls, but no shot until Saturday. It seemed like the rut peaked last Friday and was going wild on Saturday.

I called in a young 5 X 6 about 10:00 a.m. and killed it with a quartering away shot. One lunger, but it only went 10 yards. Used a Slick Tricks broadhead. It went all the way through and I never found the arrow. Weather was warm and moon was dark. Worked fast on the meat and had no trouble with meat safety. Used eight bags of ice until we got it all wrapped and in the freezer.

The picture sucks. I didn't check the digital camera mode setting and it was on the wrong one, overexposed. My kids weren't there and the "automatic" camera isn't adult proof!

Who else got an elk? I'd like to hear the details.
