Try the area around Stoman Lake. I have take two trophy bulls out of that area. If it snows hunt the junipers.

3 good sized Bull Elk by: Anonymous
I just got back from scouting by Lake Mary I saw 3 good size bull elk and a bunch of cows with a couple of smaller bulls at Newmans tank south of upper Lake Mary
I hunted this unit the first time in 2010 on the backside of the bow season so only had a couple of days to figure things out. I had a lot of activity; bulls were very vocal (1st week in Oct 2010). I packed in DIY and lived out of my backpack. You have to get into the thick areas to be successful. I return 1 Sept 2011 for the first bow season. Same venue, but more prepared this trip. Good luck to all hunters; and be safe.

Elk hunt in 6a by: Skip
Good area, hard to draw though. Best way to find the bulls is scout before the season starts. This is a very popular area and will see a lot of pressure making the bulls wary and spook easily. Also, watch the weather reports. I drew for this area a few years back (I live in Tucson,AZ) I scouted the week before my hunt; there were bulls buggleing all around my camp! A week later, we went up for the hunt only to be locked out of the area we wanted to hunt by the Forest Service who decided there was too much snow! They never even posted a sign at the turn off from I 17 to let the hunters know. We were not alone, there were many pissed off hunters from all over who got shut out. We had to move down to Stoneman Lake area. Saw a nice bull too, but that hunt I only had a cow tag! Ain't that the heck of it? Feel free to email me if I can be of further help. sirskip3@aol.com

it will be work! by: snickers dad
Clear creek canyon always has bulls after the rut. Bring a friend or two, they will hang in the steep drainages 3/4 ways up.
